Our goal in the summer of 2015 is to work in unison with local refugee and immigrant service organizations to provide our free therapeutic art workshop Traveling Postcards, to refugees as a means of support and healing.
Traveling Postcards is a safe and non-threatening healing arts workshop, a tool for self-expression and a bridge that unites communities of women and men who care about women’s human rights.
In August 2015, we will pack up art supplies, take to the road and bring Traveling Postcards to refugee support centers whose women’s empowerment programs would benefit from additional therapies.
Our creative workshop offers compassionate listening, hope, visibility and connection. It is not used to “fix” someone but to engage with them clearly and without judgement. Each woman we meet, will be given an opportunity to share her resiliency through art and words and know that her wisdom is valued and needed.
“Gender-based violence – including domestic abuse, rape, forced prostitution, and other forms of abuse – is one of the most widespread but least recognized human rights abuses in the world.” ~Global Fund for Women
It is our intention to help bring an end to violence against women by raising awareness that domestic violence affects 1 out of 4 women in the US and is the leading cause of injury to women—more than car accidents, muggings, and rapes combined.
The art and stories we collect will be documented and archived in the Women’s Wisdom Library so women’s voices can travel, connect and inspire all women to use their most powerful tool for social change- their heart’s wisdom.
